The Italian Linear pattern (also a section of the Campanian Volcanic Arc) is located in the Northern and Western Hemispheres. It is found in the continent of Eurasia and in the region of Europe, more specifically, in the country of Italy. The linear pattern (a line of volcanoes) includes volcanoes like Mount Vesuvius, Mount Stromboli, Mount Etna and Mount Campi Flegrei (Phlegraen Fields).
The process that caused this pattern is subduction. It is where the denser African Plate moves underneath the Eurasian Plate. While this movement is/was occurring it formed a tear in the African plate (generically called a "slab window") which allows heat from the mantle to melt the continental plate. This eventually builds up enough pressure and and causes an (or many) explosion/s. It is a line of strato-volcanoes. These types of volcanoes are formed when a lot of rock, lava, and any natural materials from the local environment are built up over it.
Like many volcanoes around the world, the Italian Linear pattern makes life good and bad for the people around them. It depends on the way you look at it and your perception of it all. Volcanoes globally, surprisingly, are a lot more beneficial in the long term. Examples like tourism (which could be good for the local economy) and fertile soil (which could be good for the economy and provide local farmers and villagers with the food and resources that they need to live) are positive, whereas examples like the death of thousands (which is bad because of the depression put upon loved ones) and the destruction of property, trading centers (which is bad because of the cost it would take to fix many properties would damage the local economy and the threat of future death and destruction (which is bad because it will cause people to move, damaging the local economy - but would be good for other popular moving zones' economy - , or it will kill more people which would - because the swell in population - amass of global depression). Examples of positive effects from the Italian linear pattern is the destruction of property and land around the pattern. A specific example is the destruction of Pompeii (caused by Mount Vesuvius) in 79 AD. It may have been a negative effect 1,935 years ago but that effect was short-term. It has now become a popular tourist attraction, which is helping to improve the local economy of Naples. Another positive effect most of the volcanoes have on local and global populations is that it provides fertile soil and lush vegetation. This effects people globally because the surrounding areas would be popular exporting sights and would provide food and resources for people to live off of. It would also effect the locals because the amount of money provided by the exporting would improve the Italian economy.
However, because most of these volcanoes would have been deemed safe, the distance from land surrounding this pattern (which has been covered with houses and livestock/crops that are filled with many living organisms) is unsubstantial and would cause devastation locally and globally. If one or all of the volcanoes in the linear pattern in Italy became active again (or has remained active and still erupts) it could destroy cities, properties, people and livestock. With this change, it would effect people globally because it would destroy all of the exporting items and eliminate the food and resources from Italy as a source of basic needs. It would also cause global depression from the deaths of millions and the global economy would deflate to the loss of property and the money that go towards the rebuild. The threat has and will always be there and has changed the lives of many people. Right now, though, because of this eminent threat families and such would move away, causing the local economy to drop due to the lack and loss of people.
